I am really loving keeping track of my grocery spending and saving by posting it here, and even though this is the start of the 3rd year that I have been using coupons, it is the first time I am attempting to keep track of my totals. What amazes me, is that before using the Grocery Game we would easily spend $150-$200 or more a week on our groceries, and now we spend that for the entire month, pretty amazing really! and seeing as I just did my last January shop, here are my totals for January:
Shelf : $507.43
OOP : $187.55
Saved : $319.88

Grocery Deals - January 24th
As I mentioned in a last weeks grocery post, Kroger is currently running their first mega deals of 2009 - buy 10 participating items and get $5 off at checkout. You can do this deal 3 times per transaction for a total of $15, and when you add in coupons it makes for a number of free or nearly free items. My total was not bad at all, especially considering that my Hubby was with me, and he ended up adding a number of things at full price (his frozen meals for lunch etc)

Pepsi Pot Roast
Anyone that knows my hubby, knows that two of his favourite things are beef and pepsi, so I figured a meal made out of the two should be pretty perfect for him!
I have made pepsi pot roast a few times now, and I have to say that it is probably my favourite way of slow cooking a pot roast. I am really not a fan of dry onion soup mix or those cream of mushroom soups that many pot roast recipes seem to have, so I like to use a can of tomato sauce mixed with the pepsi and a dash or two of worcester sauce in my pot roast.
Ingrediants:
Beef roast
2 cups pepsi
1 can tomato sauce
1 teaspoon worcester sauce
1 onion
Red potatoes
Baby carrots
Celery stalks
2-3 tablespoons quick cooking tapioca
Salt and pepper to taste
Pour the tomato sauce in bottom of crock pot, add the sliced onion, carrots, potatoes and celery
Add the worcester sauce
Season beef and place on top of vegetables... I usually brown the meat before adding to the pot, but I was running late this time and to be honest I had just cleaned my kitchen and really didn't want to dirty another pan!
Pour in the pepsi
Add the tapioca
Cook on low for 8 hours
The finished roast, it was so good, and I'm glad I have another beef roast in the freezer so I can make this again soon!

Grocery Deals - January 11th
This week was the first shopping with my new coupon binder... my lovely and original orange binder that I have used ever since I started couponing has been falling apart for the last few months, so one of the things I asked for from DH this Christmas was a new 4 inch case-it binder, that has a shoulder strap. Something I never thought about when I got my original binder was just how heavy all those coupons would be!
I think it will take a little getting used to, as it is a lot bigger than my other one, and takes up more room in the trolley, but I do love that shoulder strap!
My old binder and then the new!
Anyway, onto the shopping... this week at Kroger there were a few deals to be had, and I was very good and didn't actually get all of them, I passed by the free hand soap as DH was with me, as I promised I wouldn't bring anymore into the house as we already have over 30 hand soaps in our stockpile.
My total this week was almost the same as last week, and I did the same P&G deal again, although the toilet paper had gone up by $2 so my total for that deal was not as good as last weeks, but it did mean that I made the $50 total to qualify for the P&G coupon booklet, so that's good.
Shelf price : $112.33
OOP : $43.34
Saved : $68.99
Pct : 61%
My total was not bad, considering DH added in a few items that were full price, and we got a bag of frozen chicken at full price that was $8.99, plus a Wonder Pets toy for Parker's birthday next month.

Kroger has a P&G deal this week, if you spend $25 on participating products, they deduct $5 instantly at checkout.
I got a 17lb bag of dog food for $19.99
Charmin for $7.99
= $27.98
- $5 promotion
- $19.99 free dog food coupon
- $0.75 charmin coupon
- $0.25 ecoupon for charmin
So I spent $1.99 for both items
My other great deals, included:
Buy 1 get 1 free El Monterey taquitos, used 1 free El Monterey coupon, so got them both free
Powerade on sale for $0.79, used $0.40 coupons which doubled to $0.80, so 3 free bottles
Fuze on sale for $1, used 3 $0.25 coupons which tripled to $0.75, and then 1 $0.55 coupon, so paid $1.20 for four bottles
Yakisoba noodles on sale for $1 each, used 3 $0.35 coupons, which tripled to $1.05, so the store paid me $0.15 to take them home

All in all not a bad start to 2009!
